Bahasa(kan) Melayu

July 30, 2007

This entry is written in Malay to reach its proper target audience.

Mana boleh si isteri pergi kerja pagi petang siang malam, balik rumah cuci kain, masak, cuci pinggan kemas rumah selagi gus.

Aku bingit dengan cara si isteri pulak membela si kaum adam.

Mana dia tau beli bawang. Kau bangun la pergi pasar. Dia mana tahu pergi pasar.
KALAU TAK AJAR, MANA NAK TAHU.

Kalau si adam boleh tidur sampai tak bangun tiga hari, kenapa mesti aku dibelasahi bila terbitnya matahari.

Bila suruh belajar, anak perempuan yang menara gading. Anak lelaki tak pe, main bola pun boleh kaya apa. Bila cakap pasal kahwin, suruh di cari anak melayu tulen.

Tapi probability female graduate to male graduate tak in sync la mak.

Bagiku, kalau si ibu hendak di layan adil oleh si bapa, mestilah beri keadilan kepada si anak perempuanya.
Inilah al kisah rumah tangga.

Cakaplah apa engkau nak capak, yang terang aku bukan hamba engkau, Adam.

The Boss

The Boss came up to me this morning and said “I have to do something cool like that in life.”

And this is why we would pick UK over US, anytime.

If ain’t so bloody expensive.

Sunday

There will be a concert at the botanic garden tomorrow. Live jazz performance and the likes. Hmmm.

To go or not to go.

GEE Q

July 26, 2007

OMG. I just got a second life.

Best things in life

A friend lamented recently,

“The best women are either attached, married, too high of a maintenance or not very much publicized.”

I said,

“So are the best properties in town. They are either tenanted, sold, on hold, too high of a maintenance or no at all advertised.”

Are You A Snob?

July 25, 2007

They call me a snob when I opt to have my fish and chips at Fisherman’s Wharf over Swensens when the price at the latter is twice than that at the former.

They call me a snob when I choose to watch a free admission play at the National Museum than spending at least $25 (include lover’s combo) for that latest blockbuster at Lido.

They call me a snob when I choose to have my $3.50 ice tea at Toast than having a Grande Mocca Latte at Starbucks.

They call me a snob when I’d rather have my $5 vegetarian wrap at Spinelli then joining them for an upsize meal at MacDonald’s.

I am very pissed at our community for lambasting our people for choosing the supposedly finer side of life. The truth is until people realize that there exist true quality (for the same price) in life, Swensens (unfortunately) will remain the mark of achievement where food is concern.

I’d gladly walk over to my coffee shop under that multi-story carpark for my $2 mee rebus than spend $19.90 for microwaved-pasta at places like Secret Recipe and shit like that.

Sadly the halal restaurant scene in Singapore will remain very much under the radar, because it is quite a snob to make a change in preferences to discover that hey, there is something that is really worth paying for out there.

We break some rules for an improvement, not just a rebel without a cause.

If you can afford to upgrade your phone, you can afford to discover what I am discovering. Unless of course, you’re not snobbish enough for it.

Productive Being

Finally. Applied.

Yay.

At this very moment

1. There’s nothing more I want than a good roll of cigarellos.
2. I am about to forfeit a ticket because it would be stupid of me to take a bus to KL just to catch a flight to Bangkok
3. A ticket to Bk from my country cost sgd57
4. I hope both of you will get back together
5. Life is pointless without love
6. I am disagreeing with a few people who are very dear to me
7. I will be very happy to have a good book, a cup of coffee and that roll of cigarellos on a drizzly day
8. I would very much like you to call me
9. Life is also pointless without desires

So Married!

Happy Newly Wed to Siti & Syed!
May you both have many many good looking babies soon!
So that I can shop for baby shoes and baby clothes and visit Toys’r'us with a purpose!

God, we’ve grown up.

Beach Bum Bangkok

July 19, 2007

One of the few things I am going miss when I move out of Asia is Thailand. Or rather the luxury of making split seconds decision to land oneself in some of world’s gorgeous islands. They call it Koh ____.

And because I have been working too damn hard lately, it’ll be Koh Samui in couple of weeks time. Oh yeeargh.

On a side note, I have placed a Korean-all-girls-university as my second option (after Istanbul) for my exchange. Am very pleased with the options. Heh.

Hot Day

July 18, 2007

Hot Client + Hot House = Hot hot Job

And You, please, I’d rather you be on bi-anything, so long as it’s not a bi-cycle. Need you to come back in one piece.

L O Ladies

“Because this season, everyone is.”

This has got to be the best promo video ever. EVER.

Most Beautiful Song

Beyond the ridge to the left
You asked me what I want
Between the trees and cicadas
Singing round the pond
I spent an hour with you
Should I want anything else?

One grin and wink
Like the neon on a liquor store
We were 16, maybe less
Maybe a little more
I walked home smiling
I finally had a story to tell

And now in autumn time, lullaby
Sing our newborn love to sleep
My brother told me he saw you there
In the woods, morning on Christmas Eve
Waiting

I met my wife at a party
When I drank too much
My son is married
And tells me we don’t talk enough
Call it predictable
Yesterday my dream was of you

Beyond the ridge to the west
The sun had left the sky
Between the trees and the pond
You put your hand in mine
Said time has bridled it’s bow
But I remember you too

And now in autumn time, lullaby
Sing our newborn love to sleep
I dreamed that I traveled and found you there
In the woods, morning on Christmas Eve
Waiting

The Pasir Panjang Block

The first time I landed myself in that unit was when I accompanied a friend to a friend’s apartment and that was when I realize that there are hidden nooks in Singapore that will remain very much enchanted. It has quite a cunning facade, with a rather dilapidated exterior, erected amidst construction containers, the only consolation it seems it that the block is facing the sea (or the sea port).

But the moment I set my foot in it, I knew found a real treasure. It’s almost like stumbling upon a muse. Only to those who knew, this place was no ordinary. And true enough, from those who knew, I heard that there is quite an extended waiting list that awaits for it. That block remains a mystery as to how one can attain an ownership. Apparently that block is home to some of the island’s up and coming designers, writers and fashion photographers.

Liken to an excavation trip, each day I look forward to finding something intriguing, something that will leave me high for the rest of the day, something that will leave me beaming knowing that designer does not all equate to glass ceiling, stainless steel sink and marble flooring.

This is my recent obsession.

Uber Tight

1. Apply for exchange, apply for exchange, apply for exchange. Deadline: In 20 days.

2. Fuck BOSS. Bidding e$65 for Science Exploration is a joke. I’m going to make t-shirt that says “I hate BOSS” for next year’s freshman orientation camp. Or “How to win your BOSS” or “I bidded e$1936748.09 for Finishing Touch.” (Suggestions welcome)

3. Internship has officially ended. But the hunt is very much an on-going affair.

4. I love cool clients. And I don’t mind them cool ones calling me at godly hours sulking at the fact that they might lose the bid.

5. Dad sewed me a vintage pink leather laptop casing!

6. Spotting designer properties is like shooting up drugs for me. I am in a profession of satisfying desires. And based on recent expeditions, if I were ever to buy a property in Singapore, it would be in Tiong Bahru. That neighborhood is vintage cool. I could go on and on but I’d reserve this for another entry.

The Alumni

July 10, 2007

There will be a massive photo taking sessions for all Cedarians (old and new) at the National Stadium at 4pm this coming Saturday. They say once a Cedarian always a Cedarian. And without a doubt, those were the most amazing four years of my life.

And what better way to reminisce the good old days than to capture moments at the old glorious track. Not that I was part of the school team or anything but I was amongst the sea of smurf(ettes) who lost their voice every single year at the grand stand knowing that I was part of something really really special.

Like a pride rock embedded in each of our hearts, there will always be that streak of rebellion that made us who we are, regardless of who we grew up to be. The boys used to say, date a Cedarian to make her happy, not to make him happy. We learnt, we learnt.

And I am looking forward to take the trip down that memory lane~

Take Care You

This love is my best friend. And I miss my best friend.
