Feast & Forgive
Today’s the first day of Eid Mubarak, also the end of fasting month for all Muslims around the world.
Celebrations vary across the glode and here in Singapore, some families opt to brave the crowd for last minute bargain at the raya bazaar at two in the morning. It can be quite a riot there I heard.
I on the other hand am chopping, whipping and stirring up a feast in the kitchen with the mom to feed my big fat colorful family tomorrow. Grandmas, grandpas, aunts and uncles, and pimply little cousins will gather and gorge at the granny’s. And those who still qualify (I barely do, sob) shall wait eagerly for the green packets*.
And then we’ll seek for forgiveness for all our past and present antics from each other - the significance of the whole affair.
We feast and we forgive.
Eid Mubarak, Salam Idilfitri and Selamat Hari Raya to you!
Ooh.. yes.. feasting… and i ended up with food poisoning, landing me in bed for the whole day of 2nd day hari raya. Not that I mind not going out house-visiting. hee hee…
